Coralie Fargeat's unflinching commentary tackles the tyranny of female beauty along with the dreaded aspects of growing older. Presence Film
Soderbergh challenges his film-making abilities through this innovative ghostly tale filmed completely from the perspective of the phantom. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their new suburban house, the filming device – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. Chloe seems sensing the ghostly being, and it looks like defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? The premise is enjoyable that remains concise, including a revelation you might not see coming. October 11th, multiple showings, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
The iconic actor embraces his cult stardom in this autobiographical spoof. He acts as an egotistical Hollywood actor playing himself who agrees to a $1m payday to appear at a festive event on the Spanish island for billionaire Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Recruited by the CIA to investigate the suspected cartel boss, the actor's unconventional method is put to the test. October 11th, 9pm, Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's locked-room horror stands strong even without a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, multiple kidnappings has left the local kids anxious. After Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and imprisoned in a basement, he dreads a terrible outcome. However, the disconnected phone on the wall repeatedly calls, with spooky callers giving advice, while the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A solid creepfest. Saturday 11 October, late evening, on Film4
This Dramatic Portrait
In the battle between spirituality and money, the victory is clear for materialism in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her felon spouse. Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye begin capitalizing on the people's religious faith. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, bad makeup and insincerity, yet the lead actress achieves to show the character with compassion. October 14th, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
The Spy Mystery
This period's additional entry from Steven Soderbergh is a espionage tale as precise like the turtlenecks sported by Michael Fassbender's intelligence officer. He receives a mission to identify a double agent inside the organization out of five possibilities – among them is his own wife. The two stars are masters of understated style, resulting in an engaging psychological game of deception or honesty develops. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela participate the intelligent intelligence fun. October 17th, various showings, Sky Cinema Premiere
