PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
